ISLAMABAD: After nearly 16 years and close to 2,000 episodes, comedian and actor Marc Maron has announced that he will be ending his widely acclaimed podcast, WTF with Marc Maron.
The final episode is expected to be released later this year, marking the close of a groundbreaking chapter in podcasting history.
A Groundbreaking Podcast Journey
Launched in 2009, WTF with Marc Maron quickly grew from a platform where Maron aired personal stories and grievances with fellow comedians into one of the most influential interview podcasts globally.
Maron’s style was candid, conversational, and deeply personal, attracting a diverse audience of fans and cultural figures alike.
The show became a key stop on press tours for authors, actors, and musicians, showcasing in-depth, heartfelt interviews that revealed unique insights into the lives and careers of its guests.
The podcast reached its peak notoriety in 2015 when former U.S. President Barack Obama visited Maron’s makeshift Los Angeles garage studio for an episode that remains one of the most talked-about podcasts in history.
Another memorable moment was a 2010 interview with Robin Williams, which became widely revisited after Williams’ passing in 2014 and was inducted into the National Recording Registry.
Personal and Professional Growth
Throughout the years, Maron balanced his podcast with his ongoing career in stand-up comedy and acting, including a notable role in Netflix’s GLOW. WTF also served as a confessional outlet for Maron, where he openly discussed struggles with addiction, relationships, and personal loss, such as the death of his girlfriend, director Lynn Shelton, in 2020.
This vulnerability helped build a strong, one-sided yet meaningful connection with listeners.
Maron and his producing partner Brendan McDonald have expressed feeling “tired” and “burnt out” but remain deeply proud of the podcast’s impact. As WTF wraps up this fall, it leaves behind a legacy that redefined the podcasting landscape and touched millions with honest, heartfelt storytelling.
