Pakistan extends congratulations to BNP following landmark victory in Bangladesh elections

Islamabad : Pakistan’s leadership has extended warm congratulations to the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and its chairman Tarique Rahman after the party secured a decisive victory in Bangladesh’s parliamentary elections, positioning it to form the next government.

President Asif Ali Zardari hailed the BNP’s triumph as a testament to the strength of democracy in Bangladesh. He also praised the Bangladeshi people for their participation, noting that more than 127 million voters took part across 299 constituencies, marking a significant achievement in the country’s electoral history.

Reiterating Pakistan’s longstanding support for Bangladesh’s sovereignty, President Zardari emphasized Islamabad’s eagerness to work closely with the incoming administration. He highlighted opportunities to deepen bilateral cooperation in trade, defense, cultural exchange, and regional collaboration through platforms such as the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC).

The President also expressed hope that the new political climate in Dhaka would foster a more balanced and mutually respectful approach to regional affairs, encouraging stronger ties across South Asia.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif conveyed his congratulations to Tarique Rahman on X (formerly Twitter), commending the BNP’s sweeping victory and the peaceful conduct of the elections. He underscored his desire to collaborate with Bangladesh’s new leadership to enhance historic ties and promote shared goals of stability, development, and peace in the region.

Similarly, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar extended his felicitations, expressing confidence that Bangladesh, under Tarique Rahman’s leadership, would continue progressing toward prosperity, peace, and stability. He lauded the Bangladeshi electorate for a smooth and credible democratic transition.

With this decisive mandate, Bangladesh embarks on a new chapter in governance, while Pakistan signals readiness to strengthen cooperation and maintain its historic brotherly relationship with its neighbor.
