Islamabad : The United States has instructed all non-emergency personnel and their families stationed in Karachi and Lahore to depart Pakistan immediately, citing increasing regional security risks and growing tensions between the US and Iran.
In an official statement, the US Embassy in Pakistan said the precautionary move follows intelligence assessments indicating possible threats from drone or missile attacks in the region. The safety of diplomatic personnel is being prioritized.
The embassy clarified that its operations in Islamabad will continue as normal. Essential staff will maintain critical diplomatic and administrative functions, ensuring key consular services remain uninterrupted.
US officials emphasized that the measure is temporary and will be continuously reviewed. “We are closely monitoring the situation and will take further steps as needed to protect our personnel,” the statement said.
The decision highlights Washington’s heightened concern over the potential spillover of Middle Eastern conflicts into South Asia and underscores the importance of safeguarding diplomatic missions during periods of geopolitical instability.
