Tehran: Pakistan Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir held a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Friday during his official visit to Tehran.
The meeting came as the army chief arrived in Iran to participate in the final funeral ceremonies of the country’s late Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, who was martyred in attacks on Iran on February 28, 2026.
During the discussion, Field Marshal Asim Munir expressed profound respect for the late Iranian leader and commended his enduring contributions to Iran. He honoured Ayatollah Khamenei’s leadership and acknowledged the influence he had on the nation throughout his years of service.
The engagement with Foreign Minister Araghchi formed part of Pakistan’s high-level participation in the funeral proceedings, reflecting the close diplomatic relationship between Islamabad and Tehran. The interaction also underscored Pakistan’s support for Iran during a period of national mourning.
Field Marshal Asim Munir is in the Iranian capital as a member of the Pakistani delegation led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The delegation is attending the concluding funeral rites to pay their respects to Ayatollah Khamenei alongside Iranian officials and representatives from several other countries.
The visit highlights Pakistan’s solidarity with its neighbouring country and reaffirms the longstanding friendship and cooperation shared by Islamabad and Tehran.
