ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev reaffirmed their commitment to expanding bilateral ties, with a strong focus on boosting investment and regional cooperation.
The meeting took place in Lachin, Azerbaijan, during the prime minister’s ongoing four-nation diplomatic tour. The leaders expressed satisfaction over the growing relationship between the two brotherly nations and vowed to explore new avenues of economic, political, and cultural collaboration.
Broadening Diplomatic and Economic Engagement
During their high-level discussions, both leaders reviewed the entire scope of bilateral relations.
They expressed contentment with the upward trajectory of cooperation in key sectors such as defense, economy, and culture. President Aliyev warmly welcomed Prime Minister Shehbaz with a cordial hug and handshake, underlining the depth of mutual respect and solidarity.

The Pakistani delegation included senior government figures such as COAS Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, and Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi.
President Aliyev acknowledged Pakistan’s recent diplomatic and military efforts and expressed solidarity with the country during its confrontation with India.
In return, Prime Minister Shehbaz thanked Azerbaijan for its consistent support and congratulatory gestures following Pakistan’s “success” in the recent conflict.
Investment, Stability, and Shared Vision
The two sides agreed to fast-track investment cooperation through the exchange of business and government delegations.
Talks at the delegation level are expected soon, with both countries focusing on creating mutually beneficial economic opportunities. Prime Minister Shehbaz also extended warm wishes to Azerbaijan ahead of its Republic Day celebrations.

The meeting concluded with both leaders pledging to enhance regional peace, security, and principled stances on global issues.
The visit underscores Pakistan’s broader diplomatic initiative, with similar commitments expressed in recent meetings with leaders in Turkiye and Iran.
The prime minister will conclude his tour in Tajikistan, where he is set to attend the International Conference on Glaciers in Dushanbe.
