ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and the United States have agreed to collaborate closely in fostering long-term peace and stability in the Middle East, following a high-level conversation between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Thursday.
The telephonic exchange underscored the warm bilateral ties, with PM Shehbaz expressing gratitude for President Donald Trump’s leadership in brokering the Iran-Israel ceasefire and for the US’s key role in the Pakistan-India ceasefire.

Commitment to Regional Stability
During the call, both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to pursuing a “durable peace” between Israel and Iran.
Secretary Rubio emphasized that Iran must never acquire nuclear weapons, while PM Shehbaz reiterated Pakistan’s readiness to play a constructive role in Middle East peace efforts.
President Trump’s earlier meeting with Pakistan’s army chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, at the White House, was also highlighted. The meeting focused on Iran, with Trump noting Pakistan’s deep understanding of regional dynamics.
Cabinet Welcomes Ceasefire, Lauds Leadership
At a federal cabinet session in Islamabad, PM Shehbaz welcomed the ceasefire as a positive development and reaffirmed Pakistan’s solidarity with Iran.
The cabinet passed a resolution appreciating the diplomatic efforts of PM Shehbaz and Field Marshal Asim in de-escalating tensions.
PM Shehbaz also praised Iran’s response to Israeli aggression, commending the courage and unity of the Iranian nation.
