Singapore :A sophisticated cyberattack targeting Singapore’s critical infrastructure has been thwarted, prompting the immediate deployment of military units to counter the threat. Defense Minister Chan Chun Sing described the incident as a clear sign of the “new era of security threats” now facing the armed forces.
The cyberattack is suspected to be linked to UNC3886, a notorious covert hacking group known for executing Advanced Persistent Threat (APT) operations — stealthy, long-term intrusions aimed at stealing sensitive information.
Minister for Home Affairs and National Security K. Shanmugam said the incident shows the critical need for stronger border security and better intelligence coordination
“The evolving threat landscape requires a coordinated and vigilant response from all agencies K. Shanmugam, had the attack succeeded, it could have led to major breaches in national security and caused severe disruption to essential services such as healthcare, water supply, electricity, and transportation.
Authorities have stated that no systems have been confirmed as compromised so far, but they are closely monitoring the situation and have activated countermeasures to neutralize any ongoing threats.
