Islamabad: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a travel alert for citizens due to adverse weather conditions in the northern regions of Pakistan. According to the latest report, landslides and flash floods have damaged several key roads and bridges, making travel hazardous.
One major disruption has occurred in Shyok, where the Saltoro River Bridge has been affected by a landslide, leading to a complete road closure. On the Jaglot–Skardu Road, the Astak Bridge has been partially damaged, and only one-way traffic is currently allowed.
Several other roads including Dian to Ghizer, Shandur, Khaltie, Dain, and Ishkoman have also been severely impacted and remain closed for traffic. Additionally, the Kargil–Skardu Road and the route from Thangal Nala to Shigar are fully blocked. Traffic has also been suspended on the Gilgit–Naltar Road due to damage at certain points.
However, some routes have now been partially restored after repair work. The Sirmu Bridge in Ghanche and the Baghicha Road in Skardu have been reopened for traffic. Similarly, Gulmit to Gojal Road, Guro Road, and Chilam Road have also been cleared for vehicular movement.
The NDMA has strongly advised citizens to avoid traveling on damaged or vulnerable routes in the northern areas and to refrain from using alternate unsafe paths. Local authorities and relevant departments have been directed to stay vigilant and ensure public safety during this critical period.
