Islamabad: In a revealing analysis, The Diplomat magazine highlights a notable shift in U.S. foreign policy toward South Asia, with Pakistan emerging as a more prominent partner compared to India.
The report credits Pakistan’s pragmatic diplomatic efforts and the military’s active engagement in international relations for enhancing its global standing. This strategic posture has prompted Washington to reconsider its approach and prioritize Pakistan as a key stakeholder in regional stability.
Meanwhile, the report underscores India’s persistent dismissal of Pakistan’s peace overtures and points to covert Indian operations in Balochistan, which have exacerbated tensions. It also mentions accusations of Indian agencies being involved in targeted assassinations within Pakistan.
Tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors escalated sharply by May 2025, bringing the region perilously close to a nuclear crisis. The United States played a critical role in mediating a ceasefire, preventing further escalation.
India’s unwillingness to participate in constructive dialogue and its rigid political stance have raised concerns in Washington. In contrast, the deepening relationship with Pakistan is viewed as opening new pathways for cooperation and advancing shared interests in the region.
