Today marks World Radio Day: honoring radio’s impact worldwide

Islamabad : World Radio Day is being celebrated worldwide, including in Pakistan, to emphasize radio’s crucial role in educating, informing, and connecting people across cultures.

The theme for 2026 is “Radio and Artificial Intelligence,” highlighting how AI can enhance broadcasting, improve content management, and boost accessibility, all while maintaining radio’s unique human connection.

In his message, President Asif Ali Zardari praised radio for its unparalleled ability to bridge geographical and cultural divides. He acknowledged the dedication of radio professionals and underscored the medium’s ongoing importance, particularly as AI continues to shape its future. The President pointed out that this year’s theme showcases the growing synergy between radio and artificial intelligence.

President Zardari also emphasized Radio Pakistan’s pivotal role in providing trustworthy information, promoting cultural heritage, and reflecting the diversity of Pakistan’s languages and viewpoints. He recognized its vital contribution during times of crisis, from natural disasters to rapid social transformations, and its continued commitment to fostering dialogue within society. Broadcasting in 26 languages, Radio Pakistan remains a trusted source of credible news, public service announcements, and cultural programming.

In a similar message, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif highlighted his government’s push to modernize Radio Pakistan, integrating it with cutting-edge technologies like AI. He reiterated the government’s focus on fostering innovation in the Digital Pakistan Vision, aiming to position the country as a leader in knowledge and technology.

Reflecting on Radio Pakistan’s historic legacy, PM Shehbaz acknowledged its role as a unifying force, providing accessible information since the nation’s founding. He noted its contributions to agriculture, environmental awareness, culture, and education, and emphasized radio’s evolution to meet digital age demands.

“The theme ‘Radio and Artificial Intelligence’ demonstrates how technology can complement human creativity, making communication more inclusive and effective,” PM Shehbaz stated. He reiterated that Pakistan is committed to equipping its youth with modern skills and aligning its media sector with global standards.

The Prime Minister called for collective efforts to modernize Radio Pakistan and the broader media landscape, ensuring these platforms continue to be pillars of truth, responsibility, and national unity.
