Pakistan, Azerbaijan urge calm, stress restoration of regional peace

Islamabad : Pakistan and Azerbaijan have emphasized the need to reduce tensions and restore peace in the region, following a high-level discussion between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Ilham Aliyev on Friday.

During the phone call, PM Shehbaz strongly condemned the drone attacks on Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan exclave a day earlier, which caused civilian casualties. He described the strikes as unacceptable and expressed grave concern over the targeting of innocent lives.

The prime minister reaffirmed that Pakistan stands firmly with Azerbaijan, assuring full support to its leadership and people during this challenging period. He also briefed President Aliyev on Pakistan’s ongoing diplomatic efforts in response to the evolving situation in Iran and the Gulf, highlighting Islamabad’s commitment to dialogue and regional coordination.

President Aliyev expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s support, appreciating the message of solidarity conveyed by both the government and people of Pakistan.

The two leaders agreed to maintain close contact as the situation develops further.
