Washington /New Delhi : Pakistan’s proactive and positive diplomatic efforts in support of peace in the Middle East are gaining international recognition, while at the same time prompting renewed debate over India’s foreign policy stance.
A recent analysis published by the US-based magazine The National Interest has taken a critical view of the foreign policy approach of the government led by Narendra Modi, describing it as unclear and increasingly cautious in response to changing regional circumstances.
The report points out that India’s lack of a clear response to the rising tensions between Iran and Israel has led to questions both within the country and abroad.
It further notes that this careful and somewhat ambiguous stance has increased political pressure at home and affected India’s diplomatic image internationally.
In contrast, Pakistan is being recognized as a more engaged and active participant in diplomatic efforts, with the report portraying it as a country that is working to encourage dialogue and stability in the region.
While India is seen as largely observing developments, Pakistan has been expanding its diplomatic outreach and presenting itself as a cooperative partner in addressing major international concerns.
The report also highlights Pakistan’s role in helping maintain communication between Tehran and Washington, which has contributed to its image as a responsible and constructive regional actor.
At the same time, senior opposition figure Shashi Tharoor from the Indian National Congress has acknowledged weaknesses in India’s foreign policy, noting that Pakistan currently appears to be performing more effectively on the diplomatic front, especially in complex regions like the Middle East.
Experts also suggest that India’s attempt to maintain ties with both Israel and Iran has not produced strong strategic results and may have created an impression of hesitation in parts of the Arab world.
Overall, analysts believe these developments point to a changing dynamic in South Asian diplomacy, where Pakistan is increasingly viewed as active and strategically involved, while India faces growing questions about the direction and consistency of its foreign policy.
