Islamabad : Amir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani has reiterated his country’s firm support for Pakistan’s initiatives aimed at strengthening regional peace and stability during a telephone conversation with Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif.
During the call, the Qatari leader congratulated Pakistan on its successful diplomatic efforts that led to the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the United States and Iran. He praised Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for his leadership and constructive role in advancing the peace initiative.
The prime minister thanked the Amir for Qatar’s continued support and goodwill. He noted that the diplomatic achievement was the result of sustained efforts led by Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, along with the valuable cooperation of friendly countries, including Qatar.
Both leaders welcomed the positive outcome of the first round of technical-level negotiations held in Bürgenstock, Switzerland, and stressed the importance of maintaining the current momentum to ensure further progress in the dialogue process.
They also underscored the need to safeguard the negotiations from any attempts that could hinder or derail the ongoing efforts toward peace and understanding.
During the conversation, Sheikh Tamim conveyed his condolences over the death of a Pakistani citizen in the recent fire incident at the Barzan gas facility located in Ras Laffan Industrial City.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed gratitude for the gesture and appreciated Qatar’s continued hospitality toward the Pakistani community residing in the Gulf state, which now exceeds 300,000 people.
Recalling his recent visits to Doha, the prime minister renewed his invitation to the Qatari Amir to visit Pakistan. In response, Sheikh Tamim expressed his intention to undertake a visit later this year to discuss bilateral cooperation and regional developments.
The two leaders agreed to remain closely engaged and continue consultations on issues of mutual interest in the coming weeks and months.
