Washington : US President Donald Trump has announced that Iran has approached Washington for talks, revealing that a meeting between the two sides is expected to take place in Doha on Tuesday.
In a post shared on his Truth Social platform, Trump said Iran had requested the meeting but stressed that the United States would not permit Tehran to acquire nuclear weapons.
The US president also pointed to the decline in global crude oil prices, saying they have dropped to nearly $69 per barrel and continue to move lower.
According to Trump, oil prices are now below the levels seen before Washington intensified measures targeting Iran’s nuclear activities. He described the development as evidence that the US strategy toward Iran has been effective.
Trump’s remarks have fueled speculation that diplomatic engagement between Washington and Tehran could resume after months of heightened tensions.
Despite the positive signals, analysts believe the success of any negotiations will largely depend on the willingness of both countries to bridge their differences and the outcome of the discussions expected in Doha.
