Punjab govt sets up secret cell to combat corruption

Lahore : The Punjab government has stepped up its campaign against corruption and official misconduct, setting up a confidential cell to track complaints and coordinate action against those suspected of engaging in corrupt practices.

Sources said the newly formed unit would monitor information and intelligence concerning bribery, corruption, misconduct and the misuse of official powers.

Updates on the crackdown will be presented directly to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, sources added.

The sources further revealed that enforcement measures have already been initiated, with a number of individuals reportedly detained during the ongoing operation against alleged corruption and other illegal activities.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has ordered a strict zero-tolerance approach towards corruption, bribery, misconduct and the misuse of authority. She instructed concerned departments to act promptly wherever credible evidence points to corruption or the unlawful exercise of official powers.

The chief minister also urged members of the public to come forward and report cases where government officials or other individuals seek bribes, engage in corrupt activities or misuse their positions.

She said active participation from citizens would be crucial in detecting corrupt practices and helping authorities eradicate them.

For this purpose, the provincial government has introduced a dedicated complaint helpline, 1350, where citizens can submit information and register complaints concerning corruption and related misconduct.

Maryam Nawaz said all complaints received through the mechanism would be reviewed and pursued according to the law, with appropriate action taken where necessary.

The Punjab chief minister reiterated that anyone found guilty of corruption would receive no special treatment, maintaining that her government would continue to adopt a firm policy against corruption, misconduct and the abuse of official authority.
