Iran Rejects US Nuclear Proposal, Calls It a “Non-Starter”

ISLAMABAD: Iran is set to dismiss a US proposal aimed at resolving the long-standing nuclear dispute, labeling it as a one-sided deal that fails to meet Tehran’s demands.

A senior Iranian diplomat close to the negotiations confirmed that the offer, delivered through Omani mediation, does not address key concerns, including uranium enrichment and sanctions relief.

The rejection signals another setback in efforts to revive the 2015 nuclear deal.

US Proposal Falls Short of Iranian Demands

The US presented its latest proposal on Saturday through Oman’s Foreign Minister, but Iranian officials swiftly criticized it as unbalanced.

A key sticking point remains Washington’s insistence that Iran halt all uranium enrichment—a demand Tehran has repeatedly rejected.

The diplomat stated that the offer lacks clarity on lifting sanctions, which Iran insists must be removed immediately to revive its struggling economy.

Sanctions and Stalled Negotiations

Since the US withdrew from the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and reimposed sanctions, Iran’s economy has faced severe pressure.

The Biden administration has maintained a tough stance, demanding concessions before easing restrictions. However, Iran argues that the US must first honor its commitments under the original deal.

With neither side willing to compromise, hopes for a swift resolution are fading.

The deadlock raises concerns about escalating tensions, as Iran continues advancing its nuclear program beyond JCPOA limits.

If diplomacy fails, the risk of further confrontation in the region could grow, leaving global powers searching for alternative solutions.
