Lahore: Water levels in the River Chenab have risen, causing moderate flooding at Khanki, Qadirabad and Chiniot Bridge, while Palkhu Nullah in Wazirabad has also reached a moderate flood level, according to the latest flood update issued by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).
The NDMA reported that low-level flooding continues at Kalabagh, Chashma and Taunsa along the River Indus. On the River Chenab, Marala and Trimmu remain at low flood levels, while Balloki and Sidhnai on the River Ravi and Nowshera on the River Kabul are also experiencing low flooding.
The authority added that Nullah Aik and Palkhu Nullah at Cantt Bridge are currently flowing at low flood levels. Meanwhile, hill torrents in Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur are still within normal flow limits.
According to the NDMA, water levels in the River Chenab are likely to rise further over the next 24 hours at Marala, Khanki, Qadirabad and Chiniot Bridge. It also warned that Trimmu Barrage could enter the moderate flood category during the same period.
The authority further cautioned that heavy rainfall over the next 24 to 48 hours may trigger flash floods in the hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan, as well as rain-fed streams across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and northern Balochistan.
In addition, urban flooding is possible in several Punjab cities, including Gujranwala, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Jhang, Multan, Hafizabad and Lahore due to the expected downpours.
The NDMA has directed all relevant departments to closely monitor flood-prone areas, keep emergency response teams on high alert, and ensure prompt restoration of roads and infrastructure affected by flooding.
