Google has been working towards integrating its Gemini AI Assistant into various services and apps, gradually replacing Google Assistant in several areas.
According to a report by Android Authority, this change seems to be coming to Google Maps navigation soon.
The new beta version of the Google Maps app reveals the integration of the Gemini AI Assistant. When enabled, Gemini will respond instead of Google Assistant when the user clicks the microphone icon in the top-right corner of the navigation interface.
Initially, the microphone icon will still appear with Google Assistant’s color scheme, but when clicked, it will switch to the Gemini spark icon.
Gemini will offer new features for navigation that Google Assistant couldn’t. For instance, users can tell Gemini not to suggest routes that involve tolls, and it will automatically follow those instructions.
Additionally, Gemini will be able to answer questions beyond navigation, such as providing weather updates or other information.
Once Gemini is enabled in Google Maps, users will have the option to adjust Gemini settings within the app.
While this feature is not yet available to all users, it is expected to be rolled out in the near future.
