Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Secretary Abrar Ahmed Mirza held a press conference on ongoing rescue efforts following recent floods and landslides. Over 45 tourists have been safely evacuated with help from the Pakistan Army, while nine deaths have been reported since June 10, mostly in Diamer.
Severe cloudbursts caused heavy hail and flash floods, impacting all districts, with Diamer hit hardest. Infrastructure including roads and bridges sustained damage. Rescue teams have cleared blocked routes and provided shelter and food to affected residents.
Mirza urged tourists to avoid travel to affected areas until conditions improve and assured full support from the army and rescue agencies for relief operations.
