ISLAMABAD: Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) finally conquered Europe, lifting their first-ever UEFA Champions League trophy with a stunning 5-0 demolition of Inter Milan in Munich, marking the culmination of 14 years of Qatari investment and ambition.
The victory, the largest margin in a Champions League final, silenced critics and validated PSG’s shift from star-driven recruitment to a cohesive, youthful squad under Luis Enrique.
A Masterclass in Munich
PSG’s dominance was evident from kickoff, with Achraf Hakimi (against his former club) and 19-year-old Desire Doue scoring early to set the tone.
Doue struck again in the second half, followed by Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and substitute Senny Mayulu, completing a historic rout. Inter, finalists in 2023, were outclassed in every department, with manager Simone Inzaghi admitting, “It didn’t feel like my Inter.”
From Heartbreak to Glory
After years of crushing exits (Barcelona’s 6-1 comeback, Manchester United’s late drama, and Real Madrid’s 2022 collapse), PSG’s rebuild under Luis Enrique paid off.
The Spanish coach, who previously won the treble with Barcelona, became only the second manager to achieve the feat twice. “We were doubted, but this team has character,” said captain Marquinhos, the last remnant of PSG’s pre-QSI era.
With an average age of under 25, PSG’s triumph signals a new era—one where youth and tactical discipline trumped galactico signings.
Next up? The Club World Cup, where they aim to solidify their status as football’s new powerhouse.
