Balochistan unveils Rs1.089 trillion tax-free budget with 7% salary hike proposal

Quetta: The Balochistan government has announced a tax-free budget of Rs1,089 billion for the upcoming fiscal year, along with a proposal to raise salaries and pensions of government employees by 7 percent in line with the federal structure.

The budget was presented by Provincial Finance Minister Shuaib Nosherwani, who said the province’s total projected income stands at more than Rs1,134 billion. The financial plan outlines spending across major sectors including education, healthcare, security, development projects, and social welfare initiatives.

Education has been allocated Rs157.28 billion to support improvements in academic institutions, facilities, and learning infrastructure. The health sector has received Rs73.99 billion aimed at enhancing medical services and strengthening healthcare systems across the province.

A substantial Rs107.92 billion has been set aside for law and order to ensure peace and stability. Meanwhile, Rs15.13 billion has been earmarked for social protection programmes designed to assist underprivileged communities.

The budget also includes Rs65.34 billion for foreign-funded development schemes and Rs44.56 billion for federal development projects. The Provincial Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) has been fixed at Rs206.61 billion for ongoing and new development initiatives.

For routine government operations and administrative expenses, Rs797.82 billion has been allocated under current expenditure.

Overall, the budget focuses on maintaining fiscal balance while prioritizing key sectors such as education, health, infrastructure, and security, alongside modest relief measures for public sector employees.
