NEW YORK: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari has called on the United Nations and international community to push India toward a substantive dialogue with Pakistan, warning that recent military clashes have dangerously lowered the threshold for nuclear conflict in South Asia.
The appeal came during a high-level Pakistani delegation’s visit to the UN headquarters following April’s “Operation Sindoor” cross-border strikes.
Delegation Presents Pakistan’s Case at UN
The nine-member team – comprising three former foreign ministers, senators, and diplomats – briefed UNSC members and OIC representatives about India’s “violation of international law” through its post-Pahalgam attack military actions. Bilawal emphasized Pakistan’s restraint, noting its precision retaliation targeted only combat assets despite India striking civilian infrastructure.
The delegation particularly highlighted New Delhi’s “weaponization of water” through Indus Treaty violations as an escalatory precedent requiring global intervention.
Roadmap for De-escalation Proposed
Rejecting India’s “terrorism pretext” for aggression, Bilawal proposed establishing bilateral dispute resolution mechanisms and reviving comprehensive talks addressing Kashmir’s status.
The delegation secured China and Russia’s support against unilateral actions during meetings with their UN envoys. With an Indian parliamentary group arriving in Washington concurrently, the Pakistani team begins Capitol Hill engagements today seeking US mediation.
