Sialkot :Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, speaking at a press conference on Saturday, stated that further legal action is anticipated against former ISI Chief Faiz Hameed, accusing him of playing a key role in efforts to bring PTI founder Imran Khan into power while removing former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif from office.
Asif revealed that Faiz Hameed had already been convicted after a legal process that lasted approximately 15 months, and new legal proceedings would now be initiated on additional charges. He further confirmed that Faiz Hameed is no longer serving as a general and that his military rank has been officially revoked.
The Defence Minister called recent developments unprecedented, praising the military institution for handling the case against the former ISI chief in a transparent manner. He assured that further action would be taken in response to additional allegations.
Khawaja Asif alleged that Faiz Hameed and Imran Khan had conspired against the state, using their power to imprison political opponents, issue threats, and abuse political authority. He also accused them of being behind the tragic events of May 9, which resulted in widespread violence and unrest.
“If these conspiratorial elements had succeeded, the country could have suffered serious internal damage,” Asif warned.
However, he lauded the leadership of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, emphasizing that under his command, the armed forces successfully safeguarded the nation and upheld Pakistan’s dignity on the international stage.
The Defence Minister also criticized PTI for reportedly encouraging negotiations with the Taliban and facilitating their settlement in Pakistan, a stance he said was detrimental to the country’s security.
Khawaja Asif concluded by stating that the Shehbaz Sharif-led government, in close coordination with the military leadership, had played a pivotal role in steering the country through difficult circumstances and stabilizing the nation.
