Full preparedness is needed to tackle climate risks: Shehbaz Sharif

 

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated that Pakistan is among the countries most affected by the impacts of climate change, and timely and coordinated measures are essential to address this challenge.

In a statement, the Prime Minister said that the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) is using modern technology to better handle emergency situations. He mentioned that in recent days, heavy rains in Islamabad, Lahore, Chakwal, and other areas of Punjab and northern regions have disrupted normal life.

The Prime Minister appreciated the performance of all provincial chief ministers for effectively managing the current situation. He also directed that a proactive strategy be developed to prepare for potential future climate threats.

Shehbaz Sharif expressed his commitment that the federal government will fully support NDMA by providing all necessary equipment and resources. He emphasized that preparations for the next year must begin immediately.

Expressing sorrow over the loss of precious human lives and financial damages, he instructed the Minister for Planning and the Minister for Climate Change to prepare a comprehensive and joint action plan. Furthermore, he called for strengthening the public awareness campaign so that citizens can receive timely information and protect themselves.
