Islamabad: In a strong move against terrorism, Pakistani authorities have taken decisive action against extremist content on social media. Over 850 accounts linked to banned groups such as Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), and Baloch Liberation Front (BLF) have been reported, with more than 533 of these accounts blocked.
The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) and Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) collaborated to target terrorist propaganda across global platforms. Facebook and TikTok complied with around 90% of the requests to remove harmful content, while platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and WhatsApp showed less responsiveness.
The government has called on international social media companies to permanently disable all terrorist accounts, use advanced AI tools to swiftly remove violent material, and establish direct communication lines with Pakistani officials to ensure effective and timely intervention.
