Banks Closed on July 1 for Fiscal Year Transition

ISLAMABAD: The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has announced a nationwide bank holiday on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, marking the start of the new fiscal year.

According to the official notification, all commercial banks, development finance institutions (DFIs), and microfinance banks will remain closed to the public for routine transactions.

The closure is part of the standard fiscal year-end transition, a practice aimed at allowing financial institutions to finalize accounts and close their books for the 2024-25 financial year.

While public dealings will be suspended for the day, all banking employees have been instructed to report to their respective offices and perform internal duties as scheduled.

Banking Operations to Resume on July 2

Normal banking services, including over-the-counter transactions, digital banking, and ATM-related support, are expected to resume from Wednesday, July 2, 2025.

The SBP has assured that the one-day closure will not affect essential digital and online banking services that do not require manual intervention.

Customers are advised to complete any urgent transactions before the end of the business day on Monday, June 30, 2025, to avoid inconvenience.

Banks are also expected to notify customers via SMS alerts and social media regarding the closure.

Fiscal Year-End Closing Critical for Financial Sector

The annual fiscal closing is a critical operational activity that enables banks and financial institutions to assess their financial health, comply with regulatory audits, and prepare reports for stakeholders and the central bank.

This one-day closure allows for smooth processing of year-end data, reconciliation of accounts, and implementation of any new regulatory changes that take effect with the new fiscal year.

The SBP has reiterated that this closure is part of its standard banking calendar and is not linked to any security or operational disruption.
