4 Police Personnel Injured as Terrorists Attack 2 Police Stations in KP

ISLAMABAD: Terrorist attacks on two police stations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bajaur and Bannu districts were successfully repelled on Monday night, resulting in injuries to four police personnel, officials confirmed on Tuesday.

The prompt and courageous response by law enforcement prevented major casualties and damage.

Details of the Attacks

According to KP Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed, the terrorists targeted police stations in Bajaur’s Lowi Mamond area and Bannu’s Meryan police station using rocket launchers, hand grenades, submachine guns (SMGs), and rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs). Four officers, including a station house officer and three constables, sustained minor injuries during the confrontations.

Despite the intensity of the assault, police forces maintained control of both sites. Authorities believe some terrorists fled the scene injured. A search operation is ongoing to track down the attackers.

Context and Security Measures

The attacks come amid a rise in militant activities in KP and Balochistan since the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) ended its ceasefire with the government in November 2022. Security forces have escalated counterterrorism efforts in the region, responding to frequent attacks on police personnel and installations.

Recent incidents include a deadly mosque explosion in Peshawar in 2023 that killed 84 people, mostly police officers, and multiple attacks in Bannu and Gwadar.

Despite these challenges, police leadership has assured the public that bravery and quick action by personnel will continue to thwart terror attempts.
