Rawalpindi : Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir held a series of high-level meetings with Türkiye’s political and military leadership during his official visit to the country, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Tuesday.
According to the military’s media wing, the visit is focused on further strengthening the longstanding strategic partnership and defence cooperation between Pakistan and Türkiye.
Upon his arrival, the field marshal received a warm welcome, reflecting the close and enduring ties shared by the two countries.
During the visit, Field Marshal Asim Munir met Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Minister of National Defence Yaşar Güler. The discussions covered bilateral relations, regional security and issues of mutual interest, reaffirming both countries’ commitment to expanding their strategic collaboration amid changing regional and global dynamics.
At the Turkish General Staff Headquarters, the Pakistani army chief was presented with a Guard of Honour before holding detailed talks with Chief of the Turkish General Staff General Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu. Their meeting focused on the regional security landscape and strengthening professional military cooperation.
In recognition of his outstanding contributions to enhancing defence ties between the two countries, General Bayraktaroğlu conferred the Turkish Armed Forces Distinguished Service Medal upon Field Marshal Asim Munir.
The army chief also visited the Turkish Land Forces Headquarters, where he was welcomed by Commander of the Turkish Land Forces General Metin Tokel.
As part of the visit, Field Marshal Asim Munir paid homage at Anıtkabir, the mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, by laying a floral wreath and honouring the founder of modern Türkiye. The gesture reflected Pakistan’s respect for Atatürk’s legacy and the historic friendship between the two nations.
The ISPR said the visit highlights the shared determination of Pakistan and Türkiye to deepen defence cooperation and continue working together to promote regional peace, security and stability.
