Trilateral Summit: Pakistan Reiterates Call for Dialogue with India to Resolve Outstanding Issues

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to peace by urging India to engage in meaningful dialogue to resolve critical regional issues, including Kashmir, water disputes, and terrorism.

Speaking at the Pakistan-Turkiye-Azerbaijan Trilateral Summit in Lachin, Azerbaijan, the prime minister emphasized that dialogue remains the only viable path to long-lasting peace in South Asia.

He called for immediate talks on counterterrorism and other pressing matters, contingent on India’s genuine willingness to cooperate.

Summit Highlights and Regional Cooperation

At the trilateral meeting alongside Presidents Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkiye and Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan, PM Shehbaz highlighted Pakistan’s desire for peace yesterday, today, and in the future.

He underscored Pakistan’s stance on Kashmir, advocating a solution aligned with United Nations Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.

The prime minister also criticized India’s recent attempts to disrupt the Indus Waters Treaty, which is vital for Pakistan’s agriculture and drinking water needs, affirming that Pakistan will take all necessary steps to safeguard its water rights.

The summit also focused on enhancing economic and strategic ties among the three countries. President Aliyev announced plans for a $2 billion Azerbaijani investment in Pakistan, covering joint projects in AI, space exploration, academia, culture, and tourism.

President Erdogan reiterated Turkiye’s support for permanent peace in the region and highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen trilateral cooperation in trade, investment, and digital infrastructure.

Pakistan’s Response to Recent Conflict and Vision for Peace

PM Shehbaz praised the leadership of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and the Pakistan armed forces for their professionalism and resilience during the recent conflict with India.

He condemned India’s aggression and attempts to politicize the Pahalagam incident, calling Pakistan’s offer for a transparent international investigation a sincere gesture that India rejected.

Addressing the joint challenges facing the world, including armed conflicts and economic crises, the prime minister expressed hope that compassion and cooperation would prevail.

He also commemorated Azerbaijan’s Independence Day and Pakistan’s Youm-e-Takbeer, symbolizing the enduring bonds between the two nations.

PM Shehbaz concluded with a strong message of unity, declaring unwavering support for the Kashmiri people and solidarity with allies in Karabakh and Palestine.

The trilateral summit marks a critical step in reinforcing Pakistan’s diplomatic outreach and regional alliances following heightened tensions with India.

Pakistan continues to push for peaceful dialogue and international support to resolve outstanding disputes.
