ISLAMABAD: At least 36 Palestinians were killed by Israeli forces on Saturday, according to Gaza’s civil defence agency.
Six of those deaths occurred near a US-backed aid distribution centre in Rafah, where thousands of Gazans gather daily for humanitarian assistance.
The shooting happened shortly after aid distributions resumed following a brief suspension due to earlier violence near the centre.
The Gaza Humanitarian Fund (GHF) manages the aid operations in this southern district.

Israeli troops reportedly fired warning shots at civilians approaching the aid centre, claiming the individuals endangered their forces.
Witnesses said the Israeli forces fired into the air first and then directly at civilians when they tried to advance towards the centre.
Independent verification of the casualty numbers and events has not been possible.

Rising Tensions at Humanitarian Sites
The Rafah aid centre has become a focal point for ongoing tensions, with thousands gathering daily since late May to receive aid amid a partial easing of Israel’s blockade.
Despite its efforts, the GHF faces criticism from major aid organizations and UN agencies over concerns it may align with Israeli military interests.

Activist Boat Approaches Gaza
Meanwhile, an activist boat carrying 12 passengers, including Swedish climate campaigner Greta Thunberg, is sailing towards Gaza.
The vessel aims to challenge Israel’s naval blockade and bring attention to the humanitarian crisis in the territory.
International activists warn that any interception of the boat by Israeli forces would violate international humanitarian law.

The Israeli military has reaffirmed its intent to enforce the blockade, citing security concerns stemming from ongoing conflict in the region.
