Research Focus:
This scholarship is hosted by the Plant Biotechnology Lab, Faculty of Agricultural, Life, and Environmental Sciences at the University of Alberta. Research projects focus on:

Metabolic engineering of yeast for value-added bioproducts

Improving crop productivity and sustainability via canola hybrid breeding
Candidates will engage in:

Gene family analysis (in silico)

Plant genetic transformation

Phenotypic and physiological evaluation of transgenic plants

Molecular characterization and genetic analysis
Eligibility Criteria:

MSc applicants: Bachelor’s degree in biology or related discipline

PhD applicants: Master’s degree in plant molecular biology or related field

Enrollment in University of Alberta’s MSc or PhD program
-
Strong background in plant molecular biology (PhD candidates should have tissue culture & transformation experience)

Preferred knowledge: Computational analysis of gene/protein sequences

Minimum GPA: 3.3

Effective written and verbal English communication skills
