ISLAMABAD: Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir has vowed to crush terrorists operating in Balochistan, declaring that India’s role in sponsoring terrorism in the province is no longer hidden.
Speaking at a grand jirga in Quetta on May 31, Munir emphasized the vital support of Baloch tribal elders in combating these threats and securing peace.
The event was attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti, who also spoke about the worsening security situation.
Tribal Unity Against Terrorism
During the jirga, the COAS highlighted Pakistan’s firm stance against terrorism, pointing to “irrefutable evidence” of Indian involvement in destabilizing Balochistan.
He reassured that the Pakistan Army, backed by the nation and the courageous Baloch people, will confront and eliminate all enemies threatening the country’s sovereignty.
Tribal elders responded positively, pledging to stand united with the government and armed forces in maintaining security and supporting development projects.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called on locals to deny terrorists any social space, stressing that the proxies operating under the banner of Fitna Al Hindustan are attempting to undermine peace and development.
Rising Security Challenges in Balochistan
Balochistan has recently seen a surge in militant attacks, with the banned Balochistan Liberation Army increasing its operations targeting security personnel and civilians.
A tragic example was the hijacking of the Jaffar Express train near Sibi in March, resulting in 26 deaths, including 18 security officers. This escalation highlights the critical need for continued cooperation between tribal leaders, government authorities, and security forces to restore stability in the region.
Field Marshal Munir underlined that peace in Balochistan is essential and non-negotiable, with Pakistan’s future deeply tied to the province’s security and prosperity.
