Khyber: The Torkham border, located on the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, has remained closed for the seventh consecutive day, completely severing trade relations between the two countries and suspending pedestrian movement. The closure has led to significant difficulties for both traders and ordinary citizens.
Long queues of trucks, some several kilometers long, have piled up along the Torkham road. These vehicles, loaded with goods such as fresh vegetables, fruits, and other perishable items, are beginning to spoil. Traders have expressed concern that if the border is not reopened soon, the commercial losses could reach unbearable levels.
According to sources, the closure has led to a sharp increase in the prices of essential goods on both sides of the border, further exacerbating the hardships faced by ordinary people. The halt in trade has also had a negative impact on the economy of both nations.
The business community and transporters have urged both governments to de-escalate tensions and resolve the issue through dialogue, allowing the border to reopen and trade to resume. They warned that the prolonged closure is inflicting a severe blow to the economies of both countries.
On the other hand, government officials have stated that the situation is under review, and a decision will be made soon to improve the security situation and restore peace on the border.
