Supreme Judicial Council Greenlights Service Rules 2025 Amid Push for Judicial Accountability

Islamabad:Under the stewardship of Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Yahya Afridi, the Supreme Judicial Council convened to approve the much-anticipated Service Rules 2025 draft, marking a significant step toward reforming judicial conduct and accountability.

The meeting, attended by Justices Mansoor Ali Shah, Munib Akhtar, Aalia Neelum, and Junaid Ghafar, also tackled 24 complaints filed under Article 209. Of these, 19 complaints were unanimously dismissed, while 5 were deferred for further inquiry.

While the draft rules have received the Council’s nod, members emphasized the need for continued legal review, especially concerning proposed amendments to the code of ethics. The Council also agreed to revisit the inquiry procedures to enhance the efficiency and transparency of judicial investigations.

This development signals a renewed commitment within Pakistan’s judiciary to uphold integrity, streamline disciplinary processes, and strengthen public trust in the judicial system.
