Setback for India’s Defense Exports as Brazil Rejects Akash Missile System

Mumbai:Brazil has declined to purchase India’s Akash missile defense system, choosing instead the CAMM-ER system from European firm MBDA, which boasts a range of nearly 45 kilometers. In comparison, India’s Akash missile range is limited to 25-30 kilometers, and the advanced Akash-NG variant remains under development.
Despite commitments to boost defense cooperation during last year’s G20 summit, the missile deal failed to progress, resulting in both diplomatic and defense-related losses for India. Defense experts say India must accelerate technological upgrades and enhance the competitiveness of its defense products in the global market.
The deal was valued at approximately 920 million USD, marking a significant missed opportunity for India’s defense export ambitions.
