New Delhi: A well-organized drug trafficking network has been uncovered in India’s capital, Delhi, led by a woman. During operations carried out by police and investigative agencies, 550 packets of heroin, intoxicating pills, ₹1.4 million in cash, assets worth ₹20 million, and a luxury vehicle were recovered from the residence of the accused, Kusum.
According to NDTV, Kusum had illegally constructed a four-storey building by merging four residential units in the Sultanpuri area of Delhi, which was being used for drug distribution and supply.
Kusum already has 12 criminal cases registered against her, but due to loopholes in the judicial and investigative systems, she managed to evade the law each time. Police also suspect that suspicious transactions in the bank accounts of Kusum’s daughters are linked to the drug network, and they have failed to provide a satisfactory explanation.
Analysts say that despite the Modi government’s claims, the existence of such a widespread drug network in a key city like Delhi reflects the failure of the country’s legal, judicial, and administrative systems. Due to rising poverty, unemployment, and a weak rule of law in India, mafia groups are increasingly exploiting women and children for their operations.
Contrary to the Modi government’s “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India) narrative, the growing reports of drugs, crime, and social decay in the capital city deal a serious blow to India’s global reputation. According to analysts, despite a multi-billion-rupee defense budget, the Modi government appears to be failing in preventing drug networks in the national capital.
