Beijing: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a significant meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Beijing, where both leaders emphasized their intention to deepen the bilateral ties between Pakistan and Russia.
The discussion followed the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit and included key figures such as Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Army Chief Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir. Topics covered during the meeting ranged from energy collaboration and improving land connectivity to the revival of Pakistan Steel Mills, alongside regional issues including the situations in Afghanistan and Ukraine.
President Putin reaffirmed Russia’s friendly relationship with Pakistan and expressed sorrow over the recent flood devastation in the country. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif highlighted Pakistan’s dedication to fostering peace and prosperity in the region, noting that ties with Russia continue to grow stronger.
In addition, President Putin extended an invitation to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to attend the upcoming SCO summit in Moscow, which the Prime Minister gratefully accepted.
Apart from this, during the SCO summit, Prime Minister Sharif engaged in informal talks with various global leaders, including Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and the presidents of Malaysia, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Maldives, as well as the United Nations Secretary-General.
