Indian supreme court rejects plea to stop India-Pakistan Asia Cup 2025 match

New Delhi : The Supreme Court of India has dismissed a petition seeking to halt the high-profile India vs Pakistan cricket match scheduled to take place on September 14 during the Asia Cup 2025.

The plea was filed by members of a Hindu nationalist group, who claimed that conducting the match would be against the national interest, citing strained diplomatic relations between the two countries. The petitioners had requested an urgent hearing in hopes of stopping the match from going ahead.

However, the Supreme Court firmly rejected the request, stating that the match is a routine sporting event and does not pose any threat to national security or public order. The court ruled that there is no legal basis to interfere in the organization of an international cricket match and stressed the importance of keeping sports separate from politics.

“This is a regular match in a scheduled tournament. Such events should not be obstructed without substantial justification,” the court observed.

The court also declined to entertain any further delays or legal challenges on the matter, effectively clearing the way for the match to proceed as planned.
