Fake degree matter: Justice Tariq Mahmood Jahangiri challenges SHC verdict in SC

Islamabad: Justice Tariq Mahmood Jahangiri of the Islamabad High Court has approached Pakistan’s Supreme Court, seeking to overturn a recent ruling made by the Sindh High Court on September 25. He has filed a petition requesting that the higher judiciary nullify the Sindh High Court’s decision.

Justice Jahangiri’s petition asserts that the Sindh High Court improperly rejected his request to be included as a party in the ongoing case. He argues that the court rendered a verdict without giving him an opportunity to be heard, which he claims violates established legal norms. Furthermore, he highlighted that the court failed to consider whether the original petition was even maintainable—a crucial procedural point.

In the petition, several institutions have been named as respondents, such as the Sindh Higher Education Commission, Karachi University, PEMRA, and other related organizations.

The petitioner also contends that the Sindh High Court denied him the chance to present his legal representation or put forward his arguments. He added that the matter concerning his academic credentials was beyond the jurisdiction of the constitutional bench hearing the case.

Justice Jahangiri maintains that the revocation of his degree was conducted in bad faith and without legal justification. He has appealed to the Supreme Court to annul the Sindh High Court’s ruling and to ensure his right to a fair hearing is upheld.
