Lahore: In a major step toward improving public transport in underdeveloped areas, 100 state-of-the-art electric buses have been dispatched from China to Pakistan. These buses will soon begin operations in several remote districts of Punjab.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz stated that the new fleet will be deployed in Mianwali, Okara, Nankana Sahib, Muzaffargarh, Vehari, and Pakpattan — areas where organized public transport has never been available before.
These fully electric buses are eco-friendly and equipped with modern amenities such as Wi-Fi, an automated ticketing system, and accessible features for differently-abled individuals. The fare has been set at an affordable PKR 20 to ensure access for all income groups.
This marks the first time electric public transport will operate in rural Punjab, offering citizens a safe, comfortable, and modern commuting experience.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz emphasized that this initiative reflects her government’s commitment to inclusive development and improving the quality of life in all regions of the province.
