NA Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Indian FM Jaishankar hold brief meeting in Dhaka

Dhaka : In an unexpected yet significant gesture, Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar met Pakistan’s National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq in Dhaka, marking the first direct interaction between high-ranking officials of the two nations since the armed confrontations in May.

The brief meeting occurred at the residence of the late former Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Khaleda Zia, during the events following her passing.

According to media reports and sources present at the scene, Dr. Jaishankar approached Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, offering a handshake and exchanging a few words about each other’s well-being in a friendly manner.

Sardar Ayaz Sadiq responded with equal warmth, and the two leaders shared a cordial moment, set against the backdrop of a gathering that included numerous international dignitaries.

While the interaction remained informal and did not involve any official talks, its timing and symbolic nature attracted significant attention, especially after a period of strained relations between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.

Political analysts point out that even short, personal exchanges like this are crucial in maintaining diplomatic engagement and communication, particularly during delicate times in regional politics.
