Islamabad : The Senate of Pakistan has unanimously approved a resolution condemning unprovoked attacks and hostile cross-border actions originating from Afghan territory, calling them clear violations of international law and diplomatic norms.
The resolution, presented by Senator Sherry Rehman and adopted in the presence of Senate Chairman Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, warned that any attempts to undermine Pakistan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, or national security would be viewed as a direct affront to the nation’s honor and met with a firm and decisive response.
Lawmakers paid tribute to the courage, professionalism, and sacrifices of Pakistan’s armed forces and law enforcement agencies for maintaining vigilance along the borders.
The resolution also highlighted Pakistan’s long-standing support for Afghanistan, noting that over the past four decades, the country has hosted millions of Afghan nationals, provided humanitarian aid, promoted peace initiatives, and advocated for Afghanistan’s stability on international platforms—often at significant economic, social, and security costs to Pakistan itself.
Senators expressed concern over the lack of reciprocal goodwill from Afghanistan, pointing to hostile rhetoric, repeated border violations, and the continued presence of anti-Pakistan terrorist groups operating from Afghan soil. These actions were described as undermining bilateral agreements and threatening regional stability.
The resolution called on the Afghan Taliban to immediately halt all aggressive acts, prevent Afghan territory from being used as a base for attacks against Pakistan, and fulfill international obligations for peaceful coexistence.
While reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to constructive dialogue and regional peace, the resolution stressed that patience and a preference for stability should not be mistaken for weakness or inability to respond. It also urged the international community to recognize these developments and pressure Afghan authorities to comply with international norms.
The Senate concluded by emphasizing national unity across political lines in defending Pakistan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and honor, backing all necessary measures to protect the country amid escalating security challenges along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
