PM Shehbaz and Qatar’s Emir discuss regional stability, emphasize de-escalation, peace efforts

Doha: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a high-level meeting on Thursday with Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani in Doha, where both leaders emphasized the need for restraint, reduced tensions, and continued dialogue amid the evolving regional situation.

According to the Foreign Office, the prime minister is accompanied by a senior delegation during his official visits to Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Türkiye from April 15 to 18. He arrived in Doha after completing engagements in Saudi Arabia as part of his diplomatic tour.

During the meeting, discussions focused on the changing security environment, particularly developments in the Gulf region. Both sides stressed the importance of avoiding escalation and strengthening international coordination to maintain peace and stability.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s strong position condemning attacks on Qatar and other regional countries and expressed full solidarity with the Qatari people.

He also thanked the Emir for what he described as a warm and welcoming gesture, noting that Pakistani aircraft were escorted by Qatari fighter jets upon entering Qatari airspace. The prime minister said the gesture reflected Qatar’s hospitality and the strong relationship between the two countries.

Both leaders agreed on the need for continued engagement and diplomatic efforts to address regional challenges and promote long-term stability.
