Ishaq Dar calls for immediate release of Pakistani hostages held in Somalia

Islamabad : Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Tuesday held a telephonic conversation with Somalia’s Foreign Minister Abdisalam Ali to discuss ongoing efforts aimed at securing the safe release of Pakistani nationals held aboard the hijacked vessel MT Honour 25.

According to a statement from the Foreign Office spokesperson, Pakistan has maintained continuous contact with Somali authorities since the vessel was seized off the Somali coast in April.

During the discussion, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar expressed Pakistan’s serious concern over the situation and stressed the importance of ensuring the safety of the hostages, their prompt release, and safe repatriation.

Somalia’s Foreign Minister assured Islamabad of his government’s full cooperation and reiterated commitment to working for the earliest possible resolution of the matter.

Both sides agreed to remain in close contact and continue coordination until the issue is fully resolved.

The two leaders also welcomed the positive momentum in bilateral relations between Pakistan and Somalia. The Somali minister further appreciated Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts and constructive role in regional affairs.
