Gilgit: A coalition government between the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) is likely to take shape in Gilgit-Baltistan following the recent general elections in the region.
The Pakistan Peoples Party has emerged as the largest party in the elections, prompting intensified political activity and negotiations for government formation.
According to sources, the proposed alliance is expected to mirror the previous PDM-style coalition at the federal level, with both parties having reportedly agreed on a power-sharing formula.
Under the proposed arrangement, the PPP is expected to secure around 60 percent of ministerial portfolios, while the PML-N may receive 40 percent, in line with PPP’s position as the leading party in the region.
The chief minister’s office is likely to be held by the PPP, while the PML-N is expected to be allotted key ministries along with possible consideration for the Speaker or Governor positions. However, final decisions are still under discussion.
Both parties’ leaderships have expressed their commitment to ensuring political stability in Gilgit-Baltistan and have agreed to move forward with the formation of a joint government.
