Islamabad: Delegations from member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) have begun arriving in the federal capital ahead of the 9th OIC Ministerial Conference on Women, scheduled to be held on July 12 and 13.
Organised by the Government of Pakistan through the Ministry of Human Rights, the two-day conference will revolve around the theme, “Socio-Economic and Political Empowerment of Women in the OIC Countries: Challenges and Way Forward.”
The event is expected to bring together ministers responsible for women’s and family affairs, senior government representatives, officials from OIC institutions, international organisations and development partners. Participants will discuss strategies to enhance women’s role in social, economic and political spheres across OIC member states.
At Islamabad International Airport, the visiting delegations were welcomed by Minister of State for Law and Justice Barrister Aqeel Malik, Parliamentary Secretary for Human Rights Saba Sadiq, Parliamentary Secretary for Law and Justice Farah Naz Akbar, along with senior officials from the Ministry of Human Rights, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other government departments.
Pakistan’s hosting of the conference reflects its ongoing support for the objectives of the OIC and its commitment to working with fellow member nations to advance women’s rights, dignity and empowerment.
During the conference, Federal Minister for Law, Justice and Human Rights Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar will officially assume the chairmanship of the 9th OIC Ministerial Conference on Women on behalf of Pakistan.
As conference chair, Tarar will lead the proceedings and engage with representatives from OIC member countries to promote constructive dialogue, build consensus and strengthen collective efforts aimed at improving opportunities for women across the Muslim world.
The two-day gathering will feature high-level sessions where delegates will review progress achieved so far, share experiences and best practices, and discuss practical measures to further enhance the socio-economic and political empowerment of women in OIC countries.
The Government of Pakistan has extended a warm welcome to all participants and expressed confidence that the conference will deliver meaningful outcomes while wishing every delegate a pleasant and productive stay in Islamabad.
