Islamabad : Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called for Pakistan to take inspiration from the spirit of peaceful coexistence, tolerance and harmony demonstrated by the country’s minority communities, saying these values are vital for national progress and development.
The prime minister made the remarks while addressing a ceremony at the Prime Minister’s Office in Islamabad on Tuesday to mark National Minorities Day.
PM Shehbaz stressed the importance of promoting modern education and equipping people with practical and professional skills. He said both the government and society had a shared responsibility to create better opportunities, particularly in healthcare, education and youth empowerment.
The prime minister noted that Pakistan’s Christian, Hindu, Parsi and Sikh communities had lived alongside other citizens in an atmosphere of peace and mutual respect for decades. He said members of these communities had made significant contributions to the country and continued to play an important role in its development.
Highlighting their role in the creation of Pakistan, PM Shehbaz recalled that members of minority communities had supported Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah during the struggle for independence and the establishment of the country.
He also paid tribute to prominent figures, including Jogendra Nath Mandal and Cecil Chaudhry, for their services and contributions to Pakistan.
The prime minister further acknowledged the sacrifices and services rendered by members of minority communities during various wars fought in defence of the country, praising their courage, dedication and commitment to the motherland.
