Islamabad : The Power Division of the Ministry of Energy has introduced Pakistan’s first National Power Sector Innovation Programme, a new institutional initiative aimed at encouraging creative ideas and practical solutions to address challenges facing the country’s energy sector.
A dedicated digital platform, the Innovation Hub, has been created under the programme to enable participants to submit and showcase their proposals.
Speaking at the launch ceremony, Minister for Power Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari said the initiative goes beyond the concept of a conventional competition. He described it as the country’s first nationwide institutional framework focused specifically on fostering innovation within the power sector.
The minister said the programme would identify promising ideas, evaluate their feasibility, provide specialised support and assist innovators in transforming their concepts into practical and implementable solutions.
Leghari urged young Pakistanis to participate actively and put forward innovative approaches to help address major challenges confronting the power industry.
The government has allocated more than Rs1 billion for the programme over the next three years. The funds will be used for mentorship programmes, technical support, pilot initiatives and scaling up successful projects for wider application.
The initiative aims to bridge the gap between innovative concepts and real-world implementation by giving selected participants the resources and guidance needed to develop, test and improve their proposals.
Through the programme, the government seeks to promote a power sector that is more dependable, efficient and environmentally sustainable.
Students, researchers, startups, young professionals and other innovators will be able to submit their ideas through the Innovation Hub and become part of a nationwide effort to shape Pakistan’s future energy system.
Selected proposals will move through a structured process that includes mentoring, technical assistance and pilot testing. Ideas that prove successful will have the potential to be expanded and ultimately introduced on a larger scale across the country.
