Pakistan and Iran Reaffirm Commitment to Regional Peace and Strategic Cooperation

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Iran have renewed their pledge to strengthen bilateral ties and work jointly toward lasting peace and stability in the South Asian region.

This mutual commitment was expressed during Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s official visit to Tehran, where he met with Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian at the Sa’dabad Palace.

The high-level interaction came amid Shehbaz Sharif’s regional diplomatic outreach, which includes visits to Türkiye and the UAE, aimed at acknowledging the support extended by friendly Muslim nations during Pakistan’s recent tensions with India.

The leaders emphasized the importance of deepening cooperation in trade, investment, and regional security to promote shared prosperity.

Enhancing Bilateral Trade and Regional Stability

During the discussions, both leaders expressed their intention to transform historical and cultural ties into a productive strategic partnership.

The focus was placed on increasing bilateral trade and facilitating investment across diverse sectors.

The Iranian president highlighted the importance of border security cooperation to curb terrorist and criminal activities, reaffirming that peace in Pakistan directly benefits Iran.

Prime Minister Shehbaz reaffirmed Pakistan’s willingness to resolve long-standing disputes, including the Kashmir issue, through dialogue under the framework of the United Nations.

However, he reiterated that Pakistan will defend its sovereignty if provoked. Expressing appreciation for Iran’s support during recent hostilities with India, Shehbaz Sharif emphasized that mutual respect and diplomacy should guide regional interactions.

Unified Stance on Palestine and Strategic Dialogue

Both leaders condemned the ongoing violence in Gaza and expressed unwavering support for the Palestinian cause. Prime Minister Shehbaz called for the international community to take decisive action to ensure a permanent ceasefire, stating that over 50,000 Palestinians have been killed due to Israeli actions.

He also reiterated Pakistan’s recognition of Iran’s right to a peaceful nuclear program.

The Iranian president emphasized that regional peace is contingent upon dialogue among neighboring nations. He welcomed the Pakistan-India ceasefire and stressed the importance of resolving disputes through peaceful consultation.

Later, Prime Minister Shehbaz met Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei.

The premier briefed him on the current regional dynamics and reaffirmed Pakistan’s dedication to elevating strategic cooperation with Iran. Ayatollah Khamenei lauded Shehbaz Sharif’s leadership and vision for peace, offering prayers for Pakistan’s progress and unity.
