ISLAMABAD: Maruti Suzuki has officially launched the highly anticipated Alto 800 Electric, introducing an affordable electric vehicle (EV) that blends classic design with modern sustainability.
Unveiled on May 15, 2025, this EV marks a major leap in India’s entry-level car market, providing a greener alternative for budget-conscious consumers.
Performance, Range & Charging
The Alto 800 Electric features a front-wheel-drive setup powered by a 35–40 kW motor, delivering 47–54 horsepower and 100–120 Nm of torque.
It is equipped with a 20–25 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, offering an estimated range of 150–180 km under IDC conditions.
Charging takes approximately 6–7 hours with a standard home setup and just 45–50 minutes with fast charging.
A heat pump-based climate control system enhances efficiency in diverse weather conditions.
The EV uses a single-speed reduction gear transmission for smooth and maintenance-free operation.
Design, Comfort & Cost Benefits
The vehicle maintains the iconic Alto silhouette, enhanced with EV-specific elements like a closed front grille, blue accents, and aerodynamic alloy wheels.
Inside, a flat floor offers more legroom, and a digital instrument cluster shows battery stats, range, and energy flow.
It includes drive modes – Normal, Eco, and Boost – tailored to different driving needs.
While the initial price (INR 6.0–6.4 lac) is higher than the petrol variant (INR 4.2–4.6 lac), long-term savings are substantial.
Electricity costs INR 1.2–1.5/km compared to INR 5–6/km for petrol, and maintenance is nearly 60% cheaper.
A battery warranty of 8 years or 160,000 km adds peace of mind for buyers.
Maruti has also developed a five-tier charging ecosystem, including home, community, office, retail, and public stations.
A universal app lets users track chargers, check availability, and pay via a single card.
